Advanced ophthalmic imaging techniques (OVS5)

Launching in 2027, OVS5 is a new senior-level course focusing on advanced ophthalmic imaging techniques and specialised clinical scenarios.

Building on the OVS3 and OVS4 programmes, the course will cover a range of advanced imaging techniques, including slit-lamp imaging, corneal and retinal imaging, paediatric imaging, FFA/ICG angiography, OCTA and ophthalmic ultrasound.

The course will be delivered through a blended learning programme, combining online modules with case-based teaching and face-to-face practical sessions.

Course overview

The course will cover advanced ophthalmic imaging techniques, including:

• Slit-lamp imaging, including illumination and tissue manipulation for adnexal lesions and tumours.
• Corneal pathology, tumours and infections, including colour and MS39 imaging.
• Advanced medical retina imaging, including peripheral imaging, eye-steering techniques, peripheral angiography and peripheral OCT.
• Paediatric imaging.
• FFA and ICG angiography.
• OCT angiography (OCTA) and basic interpretation.
• Basic principles of ophthalmic ultrasound.

Who should apply

The course is designed for internal and external Ophthalmic Vision Science Practitioners and technicians, with a focus on senior-level practice.

Accreditation

The course will support participants in developing their knowledge and skills in advanced imaging procedures and building their professional portfolio.

A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of the course.
