Booking a Medical Elective Placement

Medical Electives are available at City Road (main site) and St George’s Hospital, Tooting, one of Moorfield’s outreaches. Electives placements can be booked for one week and up to four weeks, and no exceptions can be made on the durations.

For those intending to enrol on to a Medical Elective placement, you will be required to provide by email a copy of your CV, a letter of recommendation from your medical school and your elective placement dates. Please contact the electives coordinator via: electives.moorfields@nhs.net.

Your application will be reviewed, if approved with agreed dates you will be requested to register to create an account and make the fee payment. Please do not purchase prior to discussion with the electives coordinator. After the payment has been received and processed, you will receive a learning agreement to read, sign and return and joining instructions.

Booking an Observership

Observerships are available for a minimum of one week and a maximum of four weeks. Due to the high level of demand for our observerships, it is not possible to observe for longer than four weeks.

We offer the chance to focus your observership on a particular service or to undertake a 'mixed' observership, where sessions are timetabled across a range of services.

Applications should be made by email to Moorfields.Observers@nhs.net stating your preferred dates and the service(s) that you would like to observe. You will need to submit:

  • Your current CV
  • A letter of recommendation from your hospital or institution
  • Proof of your Covid-19 vaccination status.
  • A copy of your current passport

Those with SOE/EBO grants will also need to send a copy of their SOE/EBO grant acceptance letter.

If your application is successful, we will send you a payment link by email.

After payment is received and processed, you will receive a confirmation letter along with a memorandum of agreement, which must be signed and returned prior to attending the hospital.

It is your responsibility to apply for a visa if required by Home Office regulations for your visit. You will be required to submit a copy of your visa once received.
