This is the 6th Module of the successful Dilemmas in periocular and orbital oncology series. We present an update on management of periocular carcinomas with discussion of locally advanced tumour cases, including robotics.
Course Aims
- Update in orbital tumour management (e.g. lacrimal gland and sac tumours, lymphoma, SFT and squamous cell carcinoma)
- Targeted therapy and immune checkpoint inhibition
- Update in research into in vivo tumour margin assessment
- Novel cancer therapy and biomarkers.
Course structure
Dilemmas in periocular and orbital tumour management is an International collaboration between Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, bringing you the latest research and practice in periocular and orbital oncology.
The course features a full day of lectures delivered by leading speakers and chaired by Ms Claire Daniel, Ocular Oncology Lead at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK and world renowned Professor of Orbital and Ocular Oncology, Bita Esmaeli from MD Anderson, Houston, USA.
You will have the option to attend in-person at our training centre in Ebenezer Street, London N1 or online.
Please note that, while the course will be recorded for CPD purposes, we will not be able to share all lectures with attendees. You will need to be able to attend on the day in order to see all sessions.

Claire Daniel
Miss Claire Daniel is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. She specializes in Oculoplastic Surgery, Periocular Dermatology and Lid Oncology. She is the lead for eyelid oncology at Moorfields Eye Hospital and has over 20 years of experience of working at Moorfields. She also holds an Honorary Consultant contract at Guys and St Thomas' Hospital, London with the Head and Neck Department. Miss Daniel is the Trust Multiple Disciplinary Team Lead for Moorfields with the dermatology, melanoma and head and neck team at Guys & St Thomas' Hospital. She receives specialist referrals from units around the UK. Miss Daniel trained at Guy's and St Thomas' Medical School in London and qualified as a Doctor in 1994, after achieving a First Class Honours Batchelor of Science Degree. She trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and has worked at the world famous eye hospital for over 20 years and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1999. In her current post as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in the Adnexal Department at Moorfields she performs corrections of lid malpositions such as ptosis, entropion or ectropion, and reconstruction surgery after trauma or removal of periocular tumours. She also performs surgery for watery eyes and lacrimal drainage problems. Miss Daniel reconstructs ophthalmic socket problems and corrects socket lining abnormalities. Miss Daniel is responsible for training doctors in oculoplastic surgery at Moorfields. She teaches doctors, optometrists and nurse practitioners and general practitioners about how to recognise and manage eye problems. She is the chair for an on-going training programme for specialist surgeons in Oculoplastics in collaboration with Professor Bita Esmaeli at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. USA. She has presented her work at International and National Ophthalmic Conferences and has published peer reviewed papers in international journals and several book chapters in ophthalmic education.
Bita Esmaeli
Internationally renowned for her expertise in orbital oncology and oncologic ophthalmic plastic surgery, Dr. Bita Esmaeli is a professor and the Fellowship Program Director for Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery in the Department of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, her practice focuses on the surgical treatment of orbital tumors, lacrimal gland carcinomas, eyelid cancers, melanoma of eyelid and conjunctiva, and reconstructive surgery in the periocular region including lacrimal surgery. Dr. Esmaeli has authored over 300 publications and has spearheaded numerous clinical trials and research protocols. Additionally, she teaches throughout the world and is a frequent speaker at national and international meetings. After receiving her Medical Doctorate at Chicago Medical School, Dr. Esmaeli completed her Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Michigan in 1994. Shortly following, she completed the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) Fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto. In 1998, Dr. Esmaeli began her orbital oncology and oncologic ophthalmic plastic surgery practice at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Her research interests include early detection of metastasis, multi-disciplinary eye sparing approaches, and molecular targets for treatment for ocular and orbital cancers. For her work, Dr. Esmaeli has received many prestigious awards and honors including the Merrill Reeh Pathology Award and the Research Award from the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Ophthalmology Senior Achievement Award, Best Doctors in America, and Top Doctors Award. In 2017 and 2018, Dr. Esmaeli had two of her articles which were published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Cancer Cell included on the Wall of Science at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
