Theatre study days
This qualification is aimed at Health Care Assistants and Technicians working in the field of ophthalmology. The course will encourage multi-disciplinary learning through acquisition of new skills.
What does this course include?
Students will gain knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the eye and how it relates to ophthalmic pathology. They will also have an opportunity to develop an extensive portfolio of skill required for their role as Health care Assistants and Technicians in the ophthalmic environment.
What qualification will I gain at the end?
On successful completion of this course students be given a certificate accredited by City and Guilds.
What opportunities are there for the student upon completion of this course.
On completion of this course students will be able to apply for further qualifications with the City and Guilds or can apply to progress their career by applying for the Assistant Practitioner Course.
This course does not have any specific entry criteria, however it is recommended that all students applying have at least six months’ experience of working within an ophthalmic setting and have their managers support to undertake the course as it will require students to be given time to study and learn new skills. Students should also have good literacy skills and basic IT skills, as they will be required to prepare a portfolio, poster presentation and a case study as part of this course. Managers should not recommend their staff for this course if they do not feel they have the potential to succeed. It is a requirement that any member of staff from Moorfields NHS Foundation Trust that is employed after April 2015 has completed their Care Certificate prior to undertaking the HCA and Techs Ophthalmic course.
All students must be over the age of 18.
